As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Real Betis are on the verge of signing Greek defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos until the end of the season and the 35-year-old is expected in Seville on Thursday for his medical.
Betis are hoping to unveil the signing of the central defender after weeks of negotiations that resulted from the serious injury that Marc Bartra suffered.
The negotiations were originally put on hold a few days ago after Betis refused to pay the €4m requested by the ex-Arsenal player’s agent for the season. The defender has, however, subsequently lowered his demands and accepted the terms offered by Betis.
Sokratis is a free agent after leaving Olympiacos where he has played the previous two seasons and will join up with former Arsenal team-mate Héctor Bellerín should the signing be completed.
