Atlético Madrid are lining up a move for Tottenham right-back Emerson Royal, according to reports from Mundo Deportivo.
The capital side have in a desperate hunt for a right-back this summer, having been linked to Jonathan Clauss, Pablo Maffeo, Pedro Porro and Héctor Bellerín in recent weeks. The latest player on their shortlist is Brazilian wing-back Emerson.
Los Colchoneros have reportedly put in an offer for a one-year loan deal for Emerson, with a potential purchase option at the end of it.
According to the report, Atlético president Enrique Cerezo has affirmed that the club needs to make €40 million to be able to spend further on signings.
Emerson enjoyed a brilliant spell in his two-and-a-half-year stint at Real Betis, before parent club Barcelona sold him to Tottenham for £25 million. Despite featuring regularly for the North London side, Emerson’s displays have come under a fair amount of criticism. A return to Spain, therefore, might be a win-win for all parties.
