Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Sven Ulreich will remain in goal despite Manuel Neuer’s progress in training. He has also revealed that Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka are doubtful for Saturday’s clash with Mainz.
Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Sven Ulreich will remain in goal for the time being, even though Manuel Neuer is making great progress in his recovery from a broken leg suffered in December.
“We have ‘Manu’ back in training. It’s an excellent story. We’re very proud of him. We decided with him yesterday that Sven Ulreich will be in goal against Mainz and probably against Galatasaray to give him more training sessions. He’s been training very well. But despite all the joy, we can’t get too far ahead of ourselves,” Tuchel told reporters.
On the injury front, Tuchel revealed that Joshua Kimmich, who missed Germany’s recent games against the United States and Mexico due to illness, is a major doubt.
Leon Goretzka is also questionable, while Noussair Mazraoui, Serge Gnabry, Dayot Unaamecano and Raphael Guerreiro are definitely out.
“We have to wait a bit with Joshua Kimmich. He trained for the first time yesterday. It’ll be close. Noussair Mazraoui, Serge Gnabry, Dayot Upamecano and Raphael Guerreiro are out. Everyone else can train. Leon Goretzka is still a doubt,” Tuchel said.
“Leon has a knock. We’ll see how he deals with the pain.”
