Kicker reports that Bayern Munich and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting are moving towards a separation when the 34-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season.
The Cameroon international is still a key figure in the dressing room but only when it comes to morale. Choupo-Moting’s role on the pitch has greatly reduced since the arrival of Harry Kane as well as the continued rise of Mathys Tel, who is seen as a more capable backup to Kane.
Choupo-Moting’s contract was renewed last season due to his performance as Bayern’s emergency striker and Bayern rewarded this by doubling his salary. There is a possibility that Choupo-Moting could leave in January as it means Bayern would be able to receive a transfer fee, albeit a small one.
This season the 34-year-old has played nine times with most of his appearances coming off of the bench. The two games that Choupo-Moting has started have been against Bochum and Preußen Münster.
