Sky Germany reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach are open to selling midfielder Manu Koné in January, despite only recently extending his contract.
Earlier, it was reported that Gladbach are triggering a clause which will extend his contract at the club until 2026. However, this now looks like a move that means Gladbach can demand more money for the 22-year-old when he does leave.
Gladbach wants €40-45m for Koné who wants to leave the club no later than next summer meaning that a departure in January for the midfielder is entirely possible. Despite the previously reported interest from Bayern Munich, Koné is currently not a hot topic at the club.
Koné has struggled for game time since suffering from a knee injury during the under-21 Euros in the summer. The 22-year-old has only started one game which was a 1-0 loss to RB Leipzig last month. Instead, Rocco Reitz has been preferred as the Frenchman regains his form.
The rise of Reitz can also explain why Gladbach are opening to sell Koné as it means they do not need to invest in a replacement and can instead focus on other areas of the squad that need upgrading.
