Multiple outlets report that Joshua Kimmich is a doubt for Germany’s friendly against the USA on Saturday due to a cold.
Kimmich missed yesterday’s training with a mild cold and today the cold has gotten worse and the 28-year-old stayed at Germany’s hotel during today’s training.
With the 28-year-old likely to miss out on Julian Nagelsmann’s first game as Germany manager, it could likely open the door for Robert Andrich to make his debut. The absence of Kimmich means there is no longer a defensively-minded midfielder apart from Andrich with Leon Goretzka and İlkay Gündoğan unable to act in a similar role.
The fact that Germany are in the US at the moment is also an issue as it would have been a lot easier for Kimmich to return home to recover if the cold continues to worsen and a potential replacement could have been called up but now it will likely mean that Kimmich will have to stay in the US even if he is unable to play against Mexico next week.
