Spain recorded a 2-0 victory over Scotland in Group A on Thursday night. Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay scored with a superb free-kick on the hour-mark but his goal was disallowed and Spain took the lead shortly after.
Here are three things on the full-time whistle:
1. A draw or a win for Scotland would have seen Steve Clarke’s side qualify for Euro 2024, but they will now have to wait a while longer, although they remain top of the group with 15 points from six games.
2. Spain eventually broke Scotland down in Seville when experienced Sevilla right-back Jesús Navas crossed for the in-form Álvaro Morata to head home from close range and break the deadlock.
3. Morata spoke after the win, saying: “It was hard for us but we won and we are happy. I had one [chance] before the goal and it went just over the crossbar. We didn’t have so many chances, but we won. It’s important to keep winning and as long as we win I don’t care about anything else.”
