Stefan Ortega’s move to Manchester City is nearing completion.
According to Sport Bild, the 29-year-old is expected to earn around €10m across three-years at the Premier League champions. Ortega will undergo a medical this week ahead of joining on a free transfer after his contract at Arminia Bielefeld expired.
Ortega will be Manchester City’s No. 2 goalkeeper behind Ederson with Zach Steffen expected to join Middlesbrough. Pep Guardiola’s side moved quick to secure the services of the un-capped German, who also had interest from Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke.
From a financial point of view, Ortega can expect to earn a substantial salary, something he could have only dreamed of at Schalke, who had expressed their interest in the German stopper before signing Alexander Schwolow on loan from Hertha Berlin.
During his 12 year spell at Arminia Bielefeld, Ortega played 220 games in all competitions. Despite relegation with Arminia this season, Ortega had the second-highest save percentage in the Bundesliga and made the most saves.
