“We learned from the best again”

RB Leipzig coach Marco Rose admitted that Manchester City deserved to win on Wednesday night, saying his side “learned from the best”.

Marco Rose says RB Leipzig were taught a lesson in their 1-3 Champions League defeat to Manchester City on Wednesday night.

After going behind in the first half, RB Leipzig equalized early in the second and held out until Julian Alvarez and Jeremy Doku scored late goals to seal City’s victory.

Leipzig also faced Manchester City last season, losing 8-1 on aggregate in the round of 16, and Rose admitted they “learned from the best again” on Wednesday.

“I believe Manchester City deserved to win. I wasn’t surprised by their style of play. Pep instructs his team to be more patient and use triangles more against us. We therefore barely saw the ball and had to do a lot of running. We unfortunately made the wrong decision too often from counter-attacks,” Rose said, according to RBLeipzig.com.

“We then broke well at the start of the second half and got an equaliser. We had chances now and again to do something. City stepped things up after that. We learned from the best again tonight. It’s important to recover well and then give our all against Bochum at home on Saturday.”
