According to Sport Bild, former Real Madrid and Schalke striker Raúl has rejected an approach from Schalke to become their new head coach.
Raúl is currently the manager of Real Madrid Castilla and it is known that he would like a new challenge but the 47-year-old rejected the approach from Schalke as he believes it is not the right time for him to take charge of the club.
The former striker played 97 times for Schalke scoring 40 times as the club reached a Champions League semi-final as well as winning the DFB Pokal and Super Cup during Raúl’s time in Gelsenkirchen.
Schalke now must continue to find their replacement for Thomas Reis who was sacked as manager last week.
It is likely that Schalke will have to turn to managers such as Bruno Labbadia, Felix Magath or even Stefan Kuntz to help rescue their season as things got worse at the weekend after a 3-0 loss to Paderborn leaving them 16th in the 2.Bundesliga.
