Bild reports that Felix Magath is one of five candidates that could replace Thomas Reis who was recently sacked as Schalke coach.
Schalke are looking for a long-term solution to replace Reis and Magath who last managed Hertha Berlin is one of the names, due to his age he may potentially be ruled out.
Other potential names are former Hertha manager Sandro Schwarz, former Núrnberg manager Robert Klauß, Franco Foda and former Germany under-21 coach Stefan Kuntz.
The Königsblau are a mess on and off the pitch. On the pitch, Schalke currently sits 16th in the 2.Bundesliga and have continued to ship goals this season, conceding the second most in the league behind bottom-placed Osnabruck.
While off the pitch, the sacking of Reis as well as the demotion and fining of Timo Baumgartl after comments made after Schalke’s 3-1 loss to St Pauli last weekend continue to show that the unrest behind the scenes is affecting the performance on the pitch as well.
