According to Kicker, Bayer Leverkusen and Exequiel Palacios have reached an agreement on a contract extension at the club.
Palacios’ current contract expires in 2025 and Leverkusen hope to keep the World Cup winner in the long term and with very few players available that are similar to Palacios, Leverkusen wants to avoid a situation where they could lose him for very little or nothing.
An agreement on the extension has already been reached and the extension could be announced as early as today. It now means if a club is interested in buying Palacios this summer then Leverkusen will be in a position where they can demand a high fee for the 24-year-old.
Palacios is the second key Leverkusen player to recently extend their contract at the club after defender Edmond Tapsoba extended his contract earlier in the season. It is clear that the players believe in the project that Xabi Alonso and Leverkusen are building but the next challenge will be keeping Alonso long-term.
