Tottenham Hotspur out-of-favour star Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg eyeing January exit

Tottenham Hotspur’s out-of-favour midfielder Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg is looking for a way out in the January transfer window, claims Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Danish midfielder’s contract with his agent Pini Zahavi has ended, and he is looking to find a new representative with the aim of seeking an exit in the winter transfer window.

The 28-year-old has lost his starting berth under Ange Postecoglou, making no starts in five Premier League appearances this season.

Hojbjerg pushed for a move away from the North Londoners in the summer transfer window after learning that the Australian gaffer doesn’t consider him in his plans.

Atletico Madrid showed concrete interest in the Dane, however, their tough financial situation proved to be the sticking point in negotiations with Spurs.

Fellow Premier League clubs Fulham and Manchester United also considered signing Hojbjerg, but a deal couldn’t be materialised.

With the former Southampton star open to leaving the Lilywhites in January, it will be interesting to see who would come forward to recruit him.

Although a defensive midfielder is a pressing need for Atletico due to Koke’s fitness issues, it looks highly unlikely they will splurge on Hojbjerg, who is rated at around €40 million with a contract running until 2025.

Man Utd brought in Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina on the deadline day of the summer window; therefore, they are unlikely to revive their interest in Hojbjerg.

On the other hand, the Cottagers might consider going after the Danish international if Bayern Munich try to sign Joao Palhinha in January following their transfer fiasco in the summer.

Saudi Pro League could be a potential destination for Hojbjerg as the rich clubs from the country are expected to continue luring in high-profile stars from Europe in January.
