After receiving his first international call-up since Germany’s disastrous World Cup campaign, Niklas Süle is keen to show that head coach Hansi Flick made the right decision in bringing him back into the squad.
“I wasn’t there the last two times and I’m happy to be back here with the national team, with my teammates,” Süle said at a press conference today.
“I think Hansi and I have a very good relationship and have celebrated a lot of successes together. We have an open and honest relationship. He told me his motives for leaving me out. I have to accept them, but not always understand them, because I think I had a good year in Dortmund, and I think I deserved to be there.
“Sometimes in sports you don’t share the same opinion, and then you have to accept certain decisions. Now I’m trying to justify that he made the right decision to bring me back.”
The 28-year-old centre-back has made a total of 45 appearances for Germany, scoring once.
