As previously reported, Eintracht Frankfurt had been eyeing up a potential move for Saint-Étienne wingback Niels Nkounkou. It had been believed that both clubs were close to finding an agreement for the 22-year-old, but it is understood that Frankfurt are still far away from the French clubs’ valuation.
According to Christopher Michel, Die Adler are still hoping to reach a deal with Les Verts, who value Nkounkou at €10m. However, Frankfurt are only willing to offer €5m – €6m for the Frenchman which is making a possible deal significantly difficult for both parties.
Nevertheless, Nkounkou is keen to make the move to Germany and personal terms are considered to be a formality if both clubs can reach an agreement. A return of six goals and eight assists from 22 Ligue 2 games last season reflects why the Eagles are still pursuing the flying fullback.
Nonetheless, while a deal for Nkounkou may look far from complete, Die Adler are closing in on their twelfth summer signing. As reported by Bild, Frankfurt are close to signing Kauã Santos (20) from Flamengo for €1.5m. The young goalkeeper will offer competition for Kevin Trapp after the sale of Diant Ramaj to Ajax.
