Fabrizio Romano reported last night that Gabri Veiga is set to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli. The young Celta Vigo midfielder had an offer from Serie A champions Napoli but now looks set to make the move to Saudi Arabia.
Real Madrid player Toni Kroos and Celta coach Rafa Benítez have assessed the move in recent hours. The German midfielder only needed one word in an Instagram comment to spark a debate online. Kroos wrote “Embarrassing” on Fabrizio Romano’s own post announcing Veiga’s signing.
Benítez, the current head coach at Celta, has spoken about the transfer in his press conference before the match against Real Madrid. “To the player and his family it changes his life for the better, and because of his age he can return to play in competitive leagues again, although the [Saudi] Arabian league is on its way to being one,” he said.
He added: “We have to look at the benefit for the club in the medium to long term.”
