Reacting to their disastrous opening day defensive performance, VfL Bochum are preparing to bring back defender Kevin Schlotterbeck on a renewed loan-out. The 26-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan with the Revierklub, scoring his first-ever top flight goal in a home victory over Hertha on matchday 16.

All told, the elder Schlotterbeck brother made 13 appearances for Bochum last spring. He also scored one the season’s penultimate matchday with a late goal that doomed relegation rivals Hertha. Schlotterbeck’s parent club SC Freiburg – at which the defender no longer plays a role – had been seeking a solution for him.

Kicker Magazine and Sport Bild both report that a new loan arrangement will park Schlotterbeck in Westphalia for the coming season. A purchase option, according to both sources, will not be part of the deal. It is not known how long the player’s current contract with Freiburg runs.
