In the summer, Jonas Hofmann decided to turn down a contract extension with Borussia Mönchengladbach to join Bayer Leverkusen after seven and a half years at Borussia-Park.

This Saturday, the attacking midfielder will return to his former home ground with his new team in what will undoubtedly be a special experience for him.

Speaking to Kicker ahead of the game, Hofmann admitted that he is approaching his return with “mixed feelings”.

“I hope that many people will look at the positive aspects of the seven and a half years and not overlook this one moment. Unfortunately, that’s the case for a lot of people who think that this is more important than seven and a half years. But everyone can decide for themselves. I take it as it comes.

“It may be a bit emotional, but in a positive way. It’s nice to be back at my old stomping grounds. I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone again. For me it’s pure anticipation.”

Hofmann scored a goal and added an assist in his first two games for Leverkusen.
