According to Mohamed Toubache-Ter, RC Lens made an attempt to sign Alexis Sánchez (34), who is a free agent since the expiry of his contract at Olympique de Marseille.
Sánchez had a successful debut season with Marseille. In 35 Ligue 1 games, the Chilean forward scored 14 goals, however, his contract was not renewed, and he is now available on a free transfer. Following Loïs Openda’s departure, Lens were in the market for a forward, and according to Toubache-Ter, the club attempted to sign Sánchez.
However, the club now look on the brink of signing Elye Wahi (20) from Montpellier HSC. According to multiple sources, the France U20 international underwent a medical with Franck Haise’s side on Saturday.
As for Sánchez, a return to former club Barcelona remains a possibility. The Chilean international featured 141 times for the Catalan club, scoring 46 goals and registering 37 assists.
