Real Madrid were forced to come back from behind as they traveled to the Power Horse Stadium in LaLiga EA Sports, eventually recording a 3-1 win over Almeria.
The game had started disastrously for the visitors as their former player, Sergio Arribas, scored after only three minutes against stand-in goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.
After over a decade with Los Blancos, Arribas moved on to Andalusia earlier this month and came back to haunt his former club by sneaking in at the far post.
Bellingham’s heroics
The lead lasted only 16 minutes as England international Jude Bellingham proved a real threat, placing himself almost like a number nine at times.
It was one of those moves that saw him in the right place to bring the ball down and fire it into the back of the Almeria net, aided by a fortunate deflection in the build-up and by remaining just onside.
That meant that the score was level at half-time, and he would again get himself into a dangerous position after the break.
Toni Kroos picked him out with a fine pass over the top and Bellingham nodded the ball beyond Luis Maximiano to take his tally for the season to three.
Vinicius got in on the act
Real Madrid looked confident and rampant after Bellingham gave the team the lead, and the goalscorer then turned provider.
This time, he set up Vinicius Junior on the edge of the box and the Brazilian didn’t hesitate to curl the ball in and give Real Madrid a two-goal cushion.
The win means that Real Madrid go top of the LaLiga table, though Osasuna could overtake them if they beat Athletic Club by two or more goals in the only remaining match on Saturday.
