Total agreement between Stuttgart and West Ham for Konstantinos Mavropanos

Florian Plettenberg reports this afternoon that West Ham have reached a total agreement with Stuttgart for the transfer of Greek international Konstantinos Mavropanos for a reported €20m including add-ons.

Tim Steidten has been pushing to sign Mavropanos with just the last details to be finalised. The Greek defender has made it known that he would like to play Premier League football again one day, after being tied to Arsenal between 2018 and 2022. Mavropanos joined Stuttgart on a permanent basis last summer following an impressive loan spell.

It was reported on Wednesday that West Ham had initiated talks with Stuttgart to sign Mavropanos, who is absent from Stuttgart’s matchday squad to face Bochum due to an adductor problem.

Now 25-years-old, Mavropanos has matured as a centre-back since his big move to Arsenal back in 2018 as a 20-year-old. Standing at 6ft 4in tall, he is a powerful defender who is dominant in the air and possesses the physical qualities for the Premier League. Additionally, he likes to step into midfield with the ball and is capable of the occasional spectacular goal.

He would face competition for his place at West Ham, with centre-backs at the club including Kurt Zouma, Thilo Kehrer, Nayef Aguerd and Angelo Ogbonna, whose contract expires next year.
