Bochum sign Vitesse defender Wittek

VfL Bochum confirmed the pick-up of German left-back Maximilian Wittek late yesterday. 

Following the signing of Matúš Bero earlier this summer, VfL Bochum have acquired another one of current head-coach Thomas Letsch’s former Vitesse Arnhem players. Left-back Maximilian Wittek joins the Revierklub on a new deal good through 2026. The 27-year-old with an estimated market worth of €2 million in the latest transfermarkt listings cost the VfL a transfer fee which both clubs agreed not to disclose.

The Freising-native has extensive experience in the 2. Bundesliga, making a total of 156 appearances in six seasons spent playing for 1860 München and SpVgg Greuther Fürth. He left for Holland three years ago, scoring four goals in 89 Erdevisie appearances since then. Wittek netted six tallies in the German second division.

“I’ve always been drawn to playing in the best league in my home country,” Wittek noted in a statement accompanying the signing,” I already know VfL and the stadium with its intense atmosphere from my time with the 1860 and Fürth. I’m really looking forward to the games with Bochum and the Bundesliga. In addition, I’m looking forward to the reunion with Thomas Letsch and Matus Bero.”

“Maximilian Wittek fits our expectations of a left-rail-player perfectly,” VfL sporting director Marc Lettau added, “Left-footed, can be used offensively and defensively, German-speaking. The fact that he has also already been in action internationally, in the league as well as in the European Cup, rounds off the picture.”
