Stade Rennais are on the cusp of securing Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matić (35) from AS Roma for a reported fee of approximately €2 million. According to L’Équipe, the deal is in its final stages, with both clubs ironing out the remaining details.
Stade Rennais’ head coach, Bruno Génésio, expressed his confidence in the club’s leadership on Friday when facing questions from the press on whether the Serb was joining the club. While the transfer paperwork is not yet fully completed, only a few loose ends remain to be tied up. Barring an unforeseen twist of events, the former Chelsea player is poised to commit to a two-season stint at Roazhon Park.
In recent hours, negotiations have reportedly progressed significantly, fuelling optimism on both the Rennes and Roma sides. The financials of the deal are believed to slightly exceed the €2 million mark. If all goes according to plan, Matic could potentially make his way to Brittany by the early days of next week.
