Fred set for Fenerbahce medical ahead of Man United departure

Manchester United midfielder Fred is on his way to Turkey to complete his medical examinations ahead of a move to Fenerbahce, as per Fabrizio Romano.

The Super Lig giants agreed a €15 million plus add-ons deal with their Premier League counterparts to sign the Brazilian midfielder two days ago.

All that remains to finalise the transfer are the check-up formalities before the 30-year-old signs on the dotted line.

Fred has been an integral part of Man United’s set-up since joining from Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk in 2018.

Although he only has a Carabao Cup title to show for his efforts, the Brazil international has been a dedicated servant of the Red Devils over the last five years.

Fred also played a crucial role in Man United’s resurgence last season, contributing six goals and six assists in 56 appearances across all competitions.

With one year left on his deal at Old Trafford, coupled with Mason Mount’s arrival, Man United have decided to move the Brazilian on to make room for further recruitment.

Soon-to-be former teammate Scott McTominay could also be heading for the Old Trafford exit amid concrete interest from West Ham United.

The Europa Conference League winners are looking to revamp their midfield using the proceeds from Declan Rice’s mega-money move to Arsenal, and McTominay is one of their targets.

Hammers boss David Moyes is keen to link up with his countryman at the London Stadium, and McTominay’s potential departure could help Man United fund a move for long-term target Sofyan Amrabat.

The Red Devils have reportedly agreed personal terms with the Moroccan midfielder, but they will need to raise funds following their summer outlay thus far.

Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund have all linked up with United for a combined £163m fee. They must rely on player sales to fund further recruitment amid Financial Fair Play concerns.
