After months of speculation over Manu Koné’s future, it now looks as though the French midfielder will remain at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

The 22-year-old, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury, is prepared to stay, according to Gladbach managing director for sport Roland Virkus.

“We have decided that Manu Koné will stay with Borussia,” Virkus said.

“Of course, you can never rule out anything in football. If there would be a crazy offer, we would have to talk again,” he added.

“But actually the goal – and this has also been discussed with the player – is that he stays here first and gets back to full fitness.

“Manu sees that something is happening in Gladbach at the moment. And he might want to be a part of it.”

Nico Elvedi, on the other hand, is expected to leave after informing the club of his desire to try something else.

“Nico has expressed a desire to move on after eight years, and we have said that we only want players who are 100 percent committed,” Virkus said.

“We are in discussions with clubs. A decision will be made in the next two weeks, I can’t give a date yet.”
