Thibaut Courtois ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in Real Madrid training this morning, report Marca.
The Belgian is said to have left the session in tears after suffering the injury just two days before Madrid take on Athletic Club in their 2023-24 La Liga opener.
The Madrid shot-stopper could be out of action for up to seven months, which may now force Los Blancos into signing a new first-choice keeper.
Real Madrid have released a statement to provide an update on Courtois.
“After the tests performed on our player Thibaut Courtois, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of the left knee. The player will undergo surgery in the coming days,” the club wrote.
