With Loïs Openda having been sold to RB Leipzig last month, Ligue 1 high-fliers Lens have been in the market for a striker (or two) to replace last season’s top scorer, ahead of a campaign that will see them fight on both continental and domestic fronts.
According to Sky Sports News this afternoon, the Sang et Or have submitted a bit worth £8M for Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom, who scored 29 goals in all competitions. Sources contacted by Get French Football News have confirmed that a bid has been lodged.
However, the Championship outfit do not intend to sell the former Arsenal man until a replacement has been secured, and have set their asking price at £15m. Akpom has entered the final year of his contract.
The 27-year-old former England youth international has previous experience in Europe, with Greek side PAOK Thessaloniki. At Lens, he would be playing in the Champions League group stages, after Franck Haise’s men finished second in Ligue 1 last season.
