Fabrizio Romano reports that RB Leipzig are finalising a deal for Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida.
The two clubs have been in contact today to discuss the final details of the deal. The transfer is expected to be completed in the coming days and the 23-year-old will become Leipzig’s replacement for Joško Gvardiol who has departed for Manchester City.
The defender’s price is currently unknown, but he is expected to break Feyenoord’s transfer record for a departure at which is currently €25m. Geertruida played 41 times for Feyenoord last season as the club won the Eredivisie for the first time in six years.
What this means for Leipzig’s pursuit of Lyon’s Castello Lukeba is unknown. The club have been heavily pushing to sign the 20-year-old but Lyon have held firm over their valuation of the defender despite Lukeba expressing his desire to join Leipzig.
Leipzig’s sporting director Rouven Schröder has previously stated that the club cannot afford to sign both of the defenders.
