Wolves consider replacements for Julen Lopetegui who could leave amid transfer frustrations

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly considering replacements for Julen Lopetegui who could leave the club due to lack of transfer activity.

The 56-year-old arrived at Molineux Stadium in November when they were mired in the relegation battle.

An upturn in form under the Spanish boss saw the Wanderers win over Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, with the Midlands outfit ultimately sealing a respectable 13th-place finish.

But Lopetegui could end up leaving Wolves with less than two weeks remaining before the new season starts.

The former Sevilla boss is said to be unhappy with the club’s lack of transfer activity this summer.

The West Midlands outfit are already sounding out replacements in case the 56-year-old leaves, per the Mirror.

Wolves have only signed Matt Doherty and Tom King during this transfer window, apart from making Matheus Cunha and Boubacar Traore deals permanent.

Meanwhile, they have lost Raul Jimenez to Fulham and Ruben Neves to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, with Conor Coady, Nathan Collins and Ryan Giles having also departed Molineux Stadium.

The Wanderers could lose Max Kilman in the coming weeks, with Napoli keen to sign the English defender.

They are also set to miss out on one of Lopetegui’s prime targets Alex Scott, who looks close to joining Bournemouth.

Wolves were held to a goalless draw by newly promoted side Luton Town in their most recent friendly. They will take on Rennes in their next pre-season game on Saturday.
