Tottenham Hotspur have been looking for defensive reinforcements this summer after they conceded 63 goals during the 2022-23 Premier League campaign.
Wolfsburg’s Micky Van de Ven emerged as a top target for Ange Postecoglou’s side who will look to make a big comeback this season.
Recent reports suggested Spurs are close to wrapping a deal with the 22-year-old having already agreed personal terms with them.
However, they face tough negotiations with the Bundesliga outfit as they have yet to reach an agreement over transfer fee.
According to the Daily Mail, Wolfsburg want £43 million to let their star player leave in this transfer window.
Van de Ven began his career in his home country Netherlands with Volendam before switching to the White and Greens in 2021.
Since his arrival at the Volkswagen Arena, he has posted 41 appearances across all competitions with 38 of them coming in the Bundesliga.
The young defender’s performances caught the attention of Tottenham who offered £30m plus add-ons to secure his services.
The Lilywhites were hopeful that offer would be enough to seal a transfer for the 22-year-old.
But it looks they were wrong as Wolfsburg are demanding a hefty £43m fee for Van de Ven whose contract in Germany will run out in 2027.
Spurs have already signed three top players in James Maddison, Guglielmo Vicario, and Manor Solomon.
Meanwhile, they have also made Dejan Kulusevski loan move permanent for £25m in this transfer window.
