Lille show interest in Alidu Seidu

One of the revelations of Ligue 1 last season, Alidu Seidu, is high on several clubs’ radar this summer. After impressing in his first full season as a starter for Clermont Foot, the Ghanaian international is apparently on Lille’s card.

According to La Voix du Nord, Les Dogues are keen to bring him north, following the centre back closely. With José Fonte leaving the club and Tiago Djaló still out with an ACL injury, the 23-year-old would come in to compete for a starting position with youngster Leny Yoro and new signing Samuel Umtiti.

Called up for the first time for his country in June 2022 on the back of a very impressive first season in the French top flight, he made his debut in a friendly against Japan, a game Ghana eventually lost 4-1.

However, he eventually made his competitive at the World Cup in Qatar, starting at right back in defeats against Portugal and Uruguay in what to be a disappointing tournament for the Black Stars, as they crashed out in the group stage.

Back with his teammates in Auvergne, he was consistently one of the standout performers under Pascal Gastien’s management. Not only being an excellent tackler of the ball, Seidu is also showcases intelligent placement, ranking amongst the best in interceptions (1.90 per 90 according to FBREF).

Gastien’s management has also enabled him to develop great abilities with the ball at his feet, with high charting numbers in number of take-ons, progressive carries and progressive passes received. He would be a fantastic addition to Paulo Fonseca’s ball playing style.
