Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are in talks to secure the signature of Rosario Central striker Alejo Veliz, according to Standard Sport.
This development comes after the 19-year-old Argentine forward impressed during the recent Under-20 World Cup, representing his country.
The highly-rated prospect will command a fee of approximately £12 million. Spurs seem ready to invest in his potential to bolster their attacking lineup.
Veliz’s rise to prominence has been exciting and promising, particularly during the 2023 season, where he found his stride with Rosario Central, bagging 11 goals in just 23 league games.
Veliz is over six foot tall and one of the most sought-after attackers in Argentina, with AC Milan and AS Roma monitoring him.
However, it looks like the North London side leads the race for the young centre-forward and will sign him ahead of other clubs.
Tottenham’s transfer window focus has mainly been resisting offers for star striker Harry Kane. But Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are pushing hard for the Englishman’s signature.
Nevertheless, Tottenham have signed Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro permanently. They have also added Manor Solomon, James Maddison, and Guglielmo Vicario.
Spearheading Spurs’ recruitment efforts are chairman Daniel Levy, manager Ange Postecoglou, and chief scout Leonardo Gabbanini in the absence of former sporting director Fabio Paratici.
The club is also looking to offload certain players to make room for fresh faces in their squad. Hugo Lloris, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Tanguy Ndombele, and Bryan Gil are on their transfer list.
However, Gil’s recent groin surgery might limit the club to considering loan offers for the young winger. He is out for two months.
Lloris is attracting interest from France and Saudi Arabia and will leave the club this summer after over a decade. Atletico Madrid are pushing for Hojbjerg while Spurs await tangible offers for Ndombele.
