Trevoh Chalobah’s future at Stamford Bridge hangs in the balance after Chelsea agreed on a £38.6 million deal to secure the services of Axel Disasi, according to Standard Sport.
While Chalobah has been crucial in Mauricio Pochettino’s pre-season preparations, the young centre-back believes his opportunities will be restricted in the upcoming season.
With Thiago Silva, Levi Colwill, and Benoit Badiashile ahead of him in the pecking order, the ambitious Chalobah is now yearning for regular playing time elsewhere.
Chalobah reportedly wants to secure a spot in the England squad ahead of the 2024 European Championship next summer. His Euro 2024 ambition drives him to explore other avenues for his career.
Chelsea have reportedly placed a price tag of £45 million on the 24-year-old Cobham Academy graduate.
Among those interested in acquiring Chalobah is Serie A side Inter Milan, although it remains uncertain if other clubs will emerge in the race for his signature.
As Chelsea bolster their defensive ranks with the acquisition of Axel Disasi, the 25-year-old Frenchman will offer Pochettino a versatile option.
Not only can Disasi excel in central defence, but he also possesses the ability to perform as a right-back.
Having earned three appearances for France during the recent World Cup in Qatar, Disasi’s experience and potential have sparked excitement among the Blues’ faithful.
The need to reinforce the right-sided centre-back back position has become apparent in the wake of Wesley Fofana’s unfortunate knee injury, which will sideline the Frenchman for an extended period.
Pochettino acknowledged this necessity after Chelsea’s convincing 2-0 victory over Fulham in a pre-season friendly held in Washington.
It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds for Chalobah and Chelsea. He has been a reliable player for the Blues since returning from his loan spell in France in 2021, but with the club failing to trust him, he will seek greener pastures.
