Arsenal are exploring the possibility of a swoop for Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, reports the Athletic.
Raya arrived at Brentford back in 2019, signing from Blackburn Rovers. In his debut season, he helped the Bees to the play-off final, and achieved promotion to the Premier League in the following year.
The Spaniard has continued to wear the gloves in the top flight, making 62 league appearances in the last two campaigns. Last term, only David de Gea, Nick Pope, Alisson, and Aaron Ramsdale beat his tally of 12 clean sheets.

His performances have also helped him earn a spot in the Spain national team. He has won two caps for La Roja, and was part of Luis Enrique’s squad for the 2022 World Cup.
Raya has just one year remaining on his current contract, and is seemingly unlikely to renew. This has led to widespread speculation surrounding his future, with Brentford looking to cash in while he still has value.
According to the Athletic, Arsenal are eyeing up a move for the 27-year-old.
Ramsdale is the Gunners’ current number one goalkeeper. If signed, Raya would not be viewed as a replacement for the former Bournemouth stopper, but as competition.
The north Londoners bought the England international two years ago from Sheffield United in a deal worth up to £30 million. He has since made 72 league appearances for Arsenal, keeping 26 clean sheets.

The Athletic also claims that Bayern Munich are interested in a loan deal for Raya. However, Brentford would only accept if the player signs a contract extension, which is improbable.
Should he leave, Brentford have already brought in a possible replacement. Dutch goalkeeper Mark Flekken was recruited back in May from Freiburg for a reported £11m fee.
Flekken spent five seasons at the German side, featuring 97 times. During this time, he has also made four appearances for the Netherlands national team.
