Inter Milan are expected to finalise an agreement with Bayern Munich for the signing of goalkeeper Yann Sommer next week, reports German journalist Florian Plettenberg.
The Nerazzurri have been locked in talks with the Bundesliga giants for some time after identifying Sommers as the first-choice replacement for Andre Onana.
A verbal agreement with the Swiss goalkeeper is in place, however, Inter are yet to find common ground with Bayern over the transfer fee.
But Plettenberg adds that Inter are optimistic about getting the green light from the Bundesliga champions, and a deal could be agreed for around €5 million.
Sky Sport Italia reports that the Nerazzurri are set for a final round of talks with Bayern this weekend to possibly wrap up the deal for the former Borussia Monchengladbach star.
Sommer, who has been on Inter’s radar since January, has communicated to the higher-ups of Bayern that he wants to move to San Siro just six months after joining the Bavarians.
The 34-year-old was signed as a stop-gap signing for injured Manuel Neuer and is aware that the German shot-stopper will retain the starting spot once he completes his recovery.
The Bavarians have also prepared for Sommer’s departure, as their interest in David Raya and Wojciech Szczesny suggests.
With Inter also losing Samir Handanovic and Alex Cordaz, the Nerazzurri are looking to sign another shot-stopper.
The Nerazzurri have handpicked Ukraine U-21 keeper Anatoliy Trubin as the potential understudy to Sommer.
However, the negotiations with Shakhtar Donetsk haven’t produced any significant development, with Inter now considering other possibilities.
Sampdoria’s Emil Audero has emerged as a potential target for Simone Inzaghi’s side.
The Nerazzurri drew against Al Nassr in their latest friendly fixture and will face Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.
