David Silva has announced his retirement from professional soccer after an impressive 20-year career.
In an emotional video, he looked back on his journey and concluded with a heartfelt thank you to the sport.
Unfortunately, his career came to an end at the age of 37 due to a serious ACL injury.
David Silva’s career
Throughout his illustrious career, Silva showcased numerous virtues, including talent, vision and goal-scoring ability, making him one of the most successful and well-rounded players in football history.
He never disappointed in big games and left a lasting impact on the minds of fans, especially with his memorable headed goal against Italy in the Euro 2012 final.
Having played for Eibar, Celta Vigo, Valencia, Manchester City and Real Sociedad, Silva‘s impressive stats include 124 goals and 154 assists in 784 games, earning him immense respect and admiration from the football world.
David Silva’s impact at Real Sociedad
While he missed out on winning the Champions League, he will forever be remembered as a key player in Real Sociedad‘s 2021 Copa del Rey run, ending a 34-year drought for the club.
When Silva signed with Real Sociedad in 2020, it was a significant moment, as he returned to LaLiga after a decade with Manchester City.
Despite a delay to his debut due to a positive COVID-19 test, Silva made an immediate impact and proved that age was no barrier to his outstanding skills.
In his time at Real Sociedad, Silva helped the team qualify for European competitions and his contributions led to a contract renewal until 2023.
In 2022/23, he continued to perform at a high level, playing a crucial role in securing fourth place and a spot in the Champions League.
Unfortunately, a severe injury to his left leg’s cruciate ligament has now forced him to retire, cutting short his plans to continue playing for another year.
