Speaking to BFMTV on Tuesday, the Mayor or Paris, Anne Hidalgo, decided to weigh in on the ongoing saga around 24-year-old France captain and PSG attacker Kylian Mbappé’s future.
The player has been the subject of a €300m bid from Saudi 1st division side Al-Hilal, which Les Parisiens have accepted in an attempt to force Kylian Mbappé to the table in terms of possibly actually entertaining the Saudi offer, but also to put further pressure on the player to sign an extension or find a club that he actually wants to join to make a transfer bid for him this summer and to leave. The player is understood to have an agreement with Real Madrid to join on a free transfer in June 2024.
Hidalgo doesn’t appear to understand PSG’s behaviour, nor the context of the situation:
“I do not understand what PSG are playing at. Kylian Mbappé is the best player in the world. I admit that I don’t understand it at all. Kylian is an extraordinary player, we must keep him in Paris. I believe also that his desire is to stay as long as possible. The question is to understand what PSG are playing at.”
