Premier League side Aston Villa FC have announced that French midfielder Morgan Sanson (28) will spend the 2023-2024 season with Ligue 1 outfit OGC Nice. The former Montpellier and Olympique de Marseille midfielder is returning to France after completing a six-month loan at relegation-battlers Strasbourg during the past Ligue 1 campaign. Since his €15m move from Les Phocéens to the Villans in 2021, Sanson has only logged 23 appearances with the Birmingham-based outfit.

The Frenchman was not expected to feature regularly with the Unai Emery-led team next season. The 28-year-old is still tied to Aston Villa over a contract set to expire in 2025. Sanson’s loan move to OGC Nice includes an option to make the move permanent. Les Aiglons were in the market for an experienced midfielder since Aaron Ramsey’s contract termination – the Welshman has joined Cardiff City FC.
The deal will cost Nice €1m in loan fees, with option to buy the player for €5m.
