Manchester City to reward Nathan Ake with lucrative new contract

Manchester City are reportedly looking to reward Nathan Ake with a lucrative new contract.

The 28-year-old’s current deal at the Etihad Stadium will expire in June 2025, but Pep Guardiola’s side want to agree fresh terms with him.

According to De Telegraaf, the Citizens plan to make Ake one of their highest paid players.

The Netherlands international played an important role in helping his side complete the continental treble last season, making 40 appearances across all competitions and scoring three goals.

Guardiola seemingly rates him very highly, with the Spanish boss starting the centre-back in the Champions League final against Inter Milan.

Ake started his senior career at Chelsea, earning his competitive debut in 2012 against Norwich City at 17.

However, he didn’t get a lot of opportunities at Stamford Bridge and mostly remained on loan to various clubs.

The 28-year-old moved to Bournemouth in 2017 for a club-record £20 million fee, and proved to be a big hit at the Vitality Stadium.

He made over 120 appearances across all competitions for the Cherries, with 11 goals to his name.

The defender’s impressive displays caught the attention of Manchester City who signed him for £41m in 2020 following Bournemouth’s relegation to the Championship.

He failed to make a big impact at the Etihad Stadium in his debut campaign due to injury problems, but the centre-back’s importance has significantly grown recently.

The Dutch footballer started 22 Premier League matches last season, despite missing several games due to fitness issues in April and May.
