Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Chelsea are nearing an agreement with Montpellier to sign French forward Elye Wahi (20). A new round of talks has been scheduled between the two clubs.
According to the Italian journalist, Chelsea are closing in on a move for the France U21 international, who last season scored 19 goals in Ligue 1. It is understood that should the deal be concluded, Wahi will be loaned out for the 2023/24 season before integrating the first-team setup at Stamford Bridge.
According to Foot Mercato, Wahi isn’t keen on a loan move to Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace. Given that the Alsace club share the same owner, the link has naturally been drawn.
Chelsea are looking to accelerate their move for Wahi, according to Romano. The Premier League club potentially face competition for the young striker’s signature. L’Équipe reported earlier this week that Atletico Madrid had opened talks with Montpellier with a view to hijacking Chelsea’s move for Wahi.
