Borussia Dortmund have at long last finalized their separation with transfer flop Nico Schulz. The Westphalians officially confirmed that Schulz – who continued to draw a €6 million annual salary despite no longer featuring for the team – will receive a severance payment of €2.5 million as part of the dissolution of his contract. This figure is reported both by Germany’s “Sport Bild” tabloid as well as NRW’s “Ruhr Nachrichten” newspaper.

Schulz had both on-and-off-the pitch problems to contend with in the past year. It remains uncertain as to whether the former German national team defender, whom once cost the BVB €25 million, has any sporting future at all. Schulz made his last professional appearance for Dortmund at the tail end of the 2021/22 campaign.
