Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin (26) is close to joining PIF-funded Saudi Arabia outfit Al-Ahli, according to a report this Tuesday from L’Equipe. The 26-year-old may be the latest European player to be lured by a lucrative offer from the kingdom in the Gulf. The French publication understand that the Toons – who are also coincidentally owned by PIF – have received a €25m bid from the Jeddah-based club. Saint-Maximin is tied to Newcastle United with a contract set to expire in 2026. The Frenchman was not part of the squad that took on Rangers tonight at the Ibrox.
Despite Newcastle United’s qualification to the Champions’ League group stage, courtesy of their fourth-place finish in the Premier League, Saint-Maximin is not expected to gain playing time next season with the Eddie Howe-led Magpies. The Telegraph broke the news last week that the former OGC Nice forward would be transfer-listed. L’Équipe understand that Al-Ahli are in talks with Saint-Maximin over a salary in excess of €12m per year.
