RC Lens captain and Ivory Coast international midfielder Seko Fofana (28) has officially joined PIF-funded Saudi Arabia outfit Al-Nassr. The 28-year-old, arguably one of Ligue 1’s finest midfielders, has turned down the opportunity to play Champions League football with the Artois side in favour of a lucrative move to the Riyadh-based side, where he will link up with Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo Brozović. RC Lens will reportedly bank a fee between €25m and €30m for their skipper.

Fofana played an integral part in RC Lens’ extraordinary second place finish in Ligue 1 this past campaign. The former Manchester City midfielder logged nine goals and six assists in 39 games played in all competitions with Les Sang et Or. Fofana is the second RC Lens key player to depart this month after the €50m club-record sale of Belgian international Loïs openda to RB Leipzig. In the wake of Fofana’s departure, Lens have started their midfield revamp with the arrivals of free agent Stijn Spierings and of Basel midfielder Andy Diouf. The Ivory Coast international has signed a three-year deal with Al-Nassr.

RC Lens have revealed that Fofana will become a minority shareholder at RC Lens. “Testament to his strong attachment to Racing, he will very soon become the first player to become a shareholder of a club one is leaving“, lauds the Ligue 1 side’s CEO Arnaud Pouille. “This concrete commitment is a strong act that anchors our relationship in time and underlines Seko’s confidence in the future of the club.”
