According to Sport Bild, RB Leipzig are set to sign PSG’s Xavi Simons on a year-long loan.
The Dutchman had been playing for PSV last season where he made 34 appearances, scoring 19 goals. PSG bought the midfielder back thanks to a €6m buy-back clause in his contract. However, due to stiff competition, it’s unlikely that Simons would get regular playing time in France.
The Saxons faced competition from Borussia Dortmund for the 20-year-old but look set to make the loan official. Simons himself wrote on Instagram on Sunday night, “Hey guys! Announcement tomorrow at 2 pm.”
Simons will provide another number ten option for Leipzig head coach Marco Rose with the outgoing of Dominik Szoboszlai who joined Liverpool for €70m.
This summer alone, Leipzig have brought in Benjamin Seško (Red Bull Salzburg), Christoph Baumgartner (Hoffenheim), Fabio Carvalho (Liverpool) and Loïs Openda (RC Lens) to boost their attacking options.
