Inter Miami have announced the signing of Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets on a free transfer.
The 35-year-old will join his former teammate Lionel Messi who was unveiled as an Inter player on Sunday.
The legendary midfielder has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with The Herons.
After completing the move, Busquets said: “This is a special and exciting opportunity that I’m very excited to take. I’m looking forward to this next step in my career with Inter Miami. I was impressed by the Club when I came with Barcelona last year and now I’m happy and ready to represent the Club myself. I can’t wait to help bring the success that this ambitious Club strives for.”
Busquets is widely regarded as one of the greatest defensive midfielders of all time.
He progressed through the youth ranks of Barcelona to earn his competitive debut in 2008. The Spaniard went on to establish himself as a key member of the first-team and was hugely successful at Barca.
He made over 700 senior appearances during his time at Camp Nou, with 18 goals to his name.
Busquets lifted an incredible nine La Liga titles, three Champions Leagues and seven Copa del Rey trophies during his 15-year stay at the club.
He also enjoyed great success with the Spain national team, helping them win the 2010 World Cup and 2012 Euro titles.
Busquets usually plays as a central or defensive midfielder but he can be deployed as a central defender too.
He is highly rated for his defensive qualities, tactical intelligence, positional sense and ability to read the game.
Despite his age, the Spain international still looks to have much to offer. Last season, he racked up 42 appearances in all competitions, helping Barcelona win the La Liga title and the Spanish Super Cup.
