According to Bild, Augsburg’s Mergim Berisha is on the shortlist for Werder Bremen in preparation for the potential departure of Niclas Füllkrug.
The issue for Bremen will be the price of Berisha. Augsburg recently paid €4m to make Bersiha’s loan from Fenerbache permanent. To sell the 25-year-old, Augsburg will demand four to five times the amount paid for Berisha. This is a price that Bremen cannot afford unless they are able to sell Füllkrug.
Füllkrug has recently rejected a new contract offer from Bremen to extend his current deal at the club. The 30-year-old and his agency are expected to submit a counteroffer with an improved salary proposal. Füllkrug has promised to extend his contract at the club until 2026, but the difference in salary means no agreement has been reached.
The 30-year-old has also attracted interest from Bayer Leverkusen as a replacement for Patrik Schick who will miss the start of the season due to injury.
However, Leverkusen is still considering whether to aim for a cheaper option as a replacement for Schick or whether they should go out and spend a more significant sum of money on a player such as Füllkrug, as Bremen will demand close to €20m.
