Barcelona goalkeeper Arnau Tenas has confirmed that the club has decided against his renewal and will leave Camp Nou this summer.
The Spanish shot-stopper’s contract expires at the end of this month, and and there is also an option in the deal for Barca to extend his stay for two more years unilaterally.
However, the Blaugrana have opted against exercising the clause despite holding talks with the goalkeeper’s entourage.
“It has come out that Barça has decided not to execute my renewal and I can confirm that it is true”, Tenas said (h/t Diario AS).
Tenas, currently part of U21 Euros, was the third-choice keeper for Xavi last season, serving as an understudy to Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Inaki Pena.
However, the 22-year-old has been a prominent fixture for Barca Atletic (reserves team).
Tenas broke to prominence following his stellar campaign in the 2019 U19 Euros, where he guided La Roja to the title.
The La Masia graduate has been widely regarded as one of the top talents in the country as well as the future of Barca.
Tenas will be aiming for another title at the international level, with Spain getting off to a great start in the U21 European Championship, winning their first two games.
Getafe have been tipped as the potential suitors for the young shot-stopper, with the Madrid-based outfit already boasting former Barca players Munir El Haddadi and Carlos Alena in their squad.
Barca announced the arrival of Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City today, with the German midfielder penning a two-year contract until 2025 with an option for a further year.
