Borussia Dortmund on the verge of agreeing personal terms with West Ham target Edson Alvarez

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly on the verge of agreeing personal terms with Edson Alvarez.

Reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano reports the German side are willing to offer the 25-year-old a contract valid until 2028.

They are said to open negotiations with Ajax over a transfer fee next week, hoping to wrap up a deal in seven days.

The 25-year-old joined the Dutch outfit in the summer of 2019 as a replacement for Matthijs de Ligt.

However, he struggled for minutes during his first season at Johan Cruyff Arena starting only six league matches.

But, after impressing in midfield, he went on to establish himself as one of the key members of the first-team.

In his last four years at the club, the young midfielder has made over 140 senior appearances, with 13 goals and 6 assists to his name.

Dortmund are looking to bring in reinforcements in midfield following the departure of Jude Bellingham.

But they will likely have to part with a huge transfer fee to secure the signature of the Mexican.

Chelsea offered a Є50 million fee in January but Ajax turned down their bid.

The Black and Yellows will have to come up with a concrete offer soon because the defensive midfielder is also attracting interest from the Premier League.

West Ham United are expected to lose Declan Rice and the Hammers are keen to sign him as a replacement.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United have also been credited with an interest in the 25-year-old.

Additionally, Ajax don’t look in need of selling Alvarez whose contract at Johan Cruyff Arena will expire in June 2025.
