Karel Geraerts, who is available following his departure from Union Saint-Gilloise, is being considered as a replacement for current manager Frédéric Antonetti at Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace, according to L’Équipe.
Antonetti, who replaced Julian Stéphan in January, ultimately leading Strasbourg to safety, was expected to remain as manager of Les Alsaciens next season. However, with the arrival of BlueCo, the Frenchman’s position is now threatened. The American owners, who also own Chelsea FC, are, according to L’Équipe, “questioning the Frenchman’s capacity to incarnate the ambitious project.” His ability to recruit and develop young players, bringing them to the highest level, is also in doubt.
The project at Strasbourg has therefore changed in recent days, and Antonetti is aware of that and has been for many weeks. Despite possessing a contract until the summer of 2024, the Frenchman seemed resigned to a departure when questioned about his future at the end of the season.
Strasbourg are already sounding out alternatives, and have already enquired about Geraerts, who following his departure from Union Saint-Gilloise, is reportedly of interest to Ligue 1 rivals OGC Nice, FC Lorient, and even AS Monaco.
