Chelsea reject third Man Utd bid for Mason Mount

In the latest development of the ongoing transfer saga, Chelsea have reportedly rejected Manchester United’s third bid for midfielder Mason Mount. 

According to The Athletic, the proposed deal was for £50 million, with an additional £5 million in add-ons. 

However, the offer failed to meet Chelsea’s valuation of the player.

In response to United’s bid, Chelsea made a counter-proposal of £58 million, supplemented by £7 million in add-ons. 

The West London club hopes these revised terms will pave the way for a deal.

With the pre-season and the commencement of the new campaign fast approaching, both clubs are eager to reach a swift agreement that would avoid any disruptions to Mount’s preparations. 

The 24-year-old midfielder has one year remaining on his current contract, but talks regarding an extension have reached an impasse. 

Chelsea are keen on respecting Mount’s wishes. He has made it clear that he wants an exit and will not sign a new deal.

A product of Chelsea’s renowned academy, Mount has been instrumental for the club since his first-team debut.

The Portsmouth-born midfielder has accumulated 195 appearances while netting 33 goals and providing 30 assists for the Blues.

His development was fostered through loan spells at Vitesse Arnhem and Derby County before firmly establishing himself as a regular starter under the tutelage of former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard.

Mount’s pelvic injury setback marred the latter stages of the 2022/23 season. The injury made him miss Chelsea’s final-day draw against Newcastle United. 

Nevertheless, his performances last season have not dampened the interest of United, who recognise his immense potential and value to any team.

United will try to wrap up this deal as quickly as possible, as it has drawn out too long. They need to secure other targets.

They must sign a centre-forward to lead their forward line next season and a holding midfielder to cover for Casemiro.
